History of the Therapeutic Use of the Physical Environment in Occupational Therapy


This research attempts to answer the question:  "How have perceptions and uses of the physical environment changed throughout the history of the profession of occupational", through historical and grounded theory methods.

Physical Environment

This study began in the Summer of 2005, at which time the research team travel to the Wilma L. West Library (Bethesda, MD) to gather historical documents related to the research query.  Documents analyzed included AOTA archival materials such as journals and texts, conference proceedings, and Slagle lectures.  Meeting on a regular basis, the research team is currently in
the process of submitting their emerging findings to professional journals and presenting at national conferences.
